Ibovespa falls more slightly than the global market and closes the week with accumulated gains

The Ibovespa closed down 0.43% this Friday (13), at 137,212.63 points, at a slower pace than that seen around the world, as a sign of risk aversion after the Israeli attack on Iran, which occurred on Thursday night (12) and was retaliated against this afternoon by the Iranians.
The B3 index fluctuated between a low of 136,585.90 and a high of 137,799.95 points, with a financial turnover of R$22.7 billion this Friday. During the week, the Ibovespa accumulated an increase of 0.82%, and in the month of June, it is now slightly positive (+0.14%), with a gain of 14.07% in the year.
The rise in Petrobras (PETR3, +2.13%; PETR4, +2.46%) helped the Ibovespa show resilience in comparison with global losses, generally above 1%. "On Wall Street, the VIX volatility index jumped more than 20%, with strong risk aversion. And oil rose more than 10% amid fears that the conflict could affect global supply of the commodity. Although the variations have eased after reports that the attacks did not hit oil fields, volatility persists," explained Christian Iarussi, economist and partner at The Hill Capital.
The focus of the markets this Friday, the Israeli offensive was aimed at the top of the Revolutionary Guard, an elite unit of the Armed Forces and the de facto power behind the Iranian regime. Analysts point out that Israel's strategy appears to be to remove strongmen from the security system that supports the theocracy, in order to create the chance of a power vacuum that, in the worst case, could result in the fall of Ali Khamenei, the country's supreme leader since 1989.
Amid a long-running crisis between two major Middle Eastern military forces, oil prices rose 7% in London and New York, supporting Petrobras' progress in the B3 session. PetroReconcavo (RECV3, +2.71%) and Prio (PRIO3, +1.76%) also saw strong gains in the oil and gas sector.
"Next week, with the restart of the agenda, which includes Copom's decision on the Selic rate, on Wednesday, the domestic fiscal situation should once again gain attention," says Rodrigo Ashikawa, economist at Principal Asset Management in Brazil.
Ibovespa: check out the main highs and lows of the dayPetrobras' rise helped to mitigate the negative effect of other heavyweights in the index, such as Vale (VALE3, -1.33%) and part of the shares of large banks, such as Itaú Unibanco (ITUB4, -1.20%) and Bradesco (BBDC3, -1.19%; BBDC4, PN -1.15%).
Suzano (SUZB3, +2.19%) also had a positive result, after Goldman Sachs raised its recommendation for the stock to buy. On the losing end of the Ibovespa, the biggest drop was from CVC (CVCB3, -8.33%).
New York stock markets fall amid conflict riskNew York stock markets closed lower, with geopolitical tensions heightened by attacks between Israel and Iran and a surge in oil prices, which boosted shares in the sector.
Check out the day's closings in New York:
- Dow Jones: 42,197.79 (-1.79%)
- S&P 500: 5,976.96 (-1.13%)

On the other hand, airline and cruise stocks fell as rising oil prices fueled fears of higher fuel costs for planes and ships. United Airlines fell 4.43%, while Carnival dropped 4.96%. Defense stocks surged, including Lockheed Martin (+3.62%).
Boeing shares fell another 1.63% after losing 4.8% on Thursday, still impacted by the crash of an Air India plane with 242 people on board in western India. One passenger survived the accident. The plane, a Boeing 787 bound for the United Kingdom, crashed shortly after takeoff. According to the Wall Street Journal, the investigation is focusing on the hypothesis of loss or reduction of engine power.
