Ministry of Agriculture warns of three brands and batches of coffee unfit for consumption
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) released, this Friday (23), a risk update on roasted coffees unfit for human consumption. Laboratory analyses identified the presence of impurities, foreign matter and mycotoxins above the permitted limits in batches of three brands.
The products with irregularities are from the brands Melissa (lot 0125A), Pingo Preto (lot 12025) and Oficial (lot 263). The brands, respectively from Paraná, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, were disqualified for failing to comply with the standards established in Ordinance No. 570, of May 9, 2022.
As an immediate measure, Mapa says it has ordered the collection of irregular batches and official communication to the companies responsible for the coffee unfit for consumption.
The Ministry also advises consumers who have purchased the products to stop consuming them. It is possible to request a replacement, based on the Consumer Protection Code.
Furthermore, if anyone identifies that the lots are still for sale, reports can be made through the official Fala.BR channel, informing the name and address of the point of sale.
“Fake coffee”In February, the government had already seized products from three brands that did not contain coffee in their composition “by coincidence” from the same states. At the time, the names of the brands had not been published.
There are companies that advertise that they sell a coffee-flavored powder in their formulation. With the high price, consumers may end up being induced to make this purchase.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), coffee prices rose 80% between April 2024 and April 2025.
Another result, in addition to the increase in “fake coffee”, is the decline in consumption. Data released this Wednesday (22) by the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (Abic) show that coffee consumption fell 5.13% in Brazil in the first four months of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
