Porto. IL joins PSD and joins coalition

IL decided this Monday to run in coalition for the Porto City Council in the next local elections, supporting the PSD candidate, former minister Pedro Duarte.

The IL National Council met this Monday in Almada, in the district of Setúbal, and approved 30 local government candidates, 17 of which with their own lists and the rest in coalition . The coalitions announced this Monday are all with PSD and CDS-PP, or with just one of these parties.

In a statement, the party stated that it had decided to run alone for the presidency of the municipal councils of Cascais, Oeiras, Almada, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Ponte de Lima, Santa Maria da Feira, Oliveira de Azeméis, São João da Madeira, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Vila Verde, Figueira da Foz, Albufeira, Caldas da Rainha and Torres Vedras.

In the next local elections, IL will join coalitions in the candidacies for the municipalities of Porto, Santo Tirso, Loulé, Portimão, Vizela, Mirandela, Covilhã, Silves, Bombarral, Arruda dos Vinhos, Almeirim, Montijo and Santa Comba Dão. In Porto, the PSD candidate is the former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pedro Duarte.

In April, the Porto council of the CDS-PP decided to support the social democrat's candidacy, but the party has not yet officially announced whether it will join this coalition.

In Santo Tirso, the PSD candidate, Ricardo Pereira, had confirmed at the beginning of this month the coalition with the CDS-PP and the IL, but days later the Christian Democrat council broke the coalition agreement for the local elections with the PSD due to “some positions” assumed by the Social Democrat council.

The local elections will take place between September and October this year.
