Carneiro wants to “regain citizens’ trust” in the PS
Manuel Alegre, Francisco Assis, Inês de Medeiros, Carlos Zorrinho, Jorge Lacão and André Caldas are some of the socialists who will be present today at the presentation of José Luís Carneiro's candidacy for the leadership of the Socialist Party (PS), this Saturday.
By Wednesday, around a hundred figures had confirmed their presence, including MPs, MEPs, mayors, local government candidates and founders of the PS, JE found out from José Luís Carneiro's candidacy.
The former Minister of Internal Affairs decided to “take the step forward” at such a “difficult” time because he believes it is his duty. His goal, he has already said, is to “regain the trust of citizens in the values, principles and proposals of the PS”, after the party fell to third place in the political rankings.
To this end, he intends to “listen to and give voice to people, activists and supporters”, says Carneiro, who has already shown his willingness to “contribute to the viability” of the OE2026. The candidate for leader adds that his candidacy “is a call for everyone’s participation, for dialogue between the different civic and political expressions of our society”.
