IL will present a proposal for constitutional review

The leader of the Liberal Initiative announced this Wednesday that the party will present a constitutional review project to reduce the “central role” of the State in the economy,
“The IL will present a constitutional review project in which we will bring this vision of a [freer, more economically autonomous] society to the table. It is not a settling of accounts with history, but the creation of an opportunity for the future for everyone, in which everyone identifies with a Constitution that brings more freedom and has less ideological bias”, stated Rui Rocha, in statements to journalists after the audience with the President of the Republic, which lasted about an hour.
“It is something that we understand needs to be reviewed, but we will present our constitutional review project in due course. I must say that we have already done so in previous legislatures, in fact, all parties have done so. And so, at that time, there seems to have been a desire for constitutional review,” he stressed.
According to the party leader, the IL wants the Constitution to provide for “a more open, freer society”.
“We understand that it should not be a settling of accounts with History, but it should also not be a conditioning for future generations that are conditioned by a specific moment in History. Therefore, we want to move forward in this direction and we will move forward in the coming days,” he explained.
The IL review project will be for “a freer, more economically autonomous society, in which the role of the State is not the central role of the economy”, he added.
Asked about Chega's possible position in relation to the proposal to be presented by IL, Rui Rocha responded: “I want to count on all the votes that identify with this vision”.
