Portugal loses to Israel in the 'black' in the men's volleyball Golden League

The Portuguese men's volleyball team lost today to their Israeli counterparts, in the 'black', by 3-2, in the closing game of the 8th tournament of the preliminary phase of the European Golden League, played in Loulé .
At the Professor Joaquim Vairinhos Municipal Pavilion, the Portuguese team was unable to nullify the superiority of the Israelis in the first two sets (25-13 and 25-18), but reacted in the following sets (25-20 and 26-24), with the outsiders celebrating their triumph in the decisive set (16-14).
After four games played, Portugal, with one win and three defeats, occupies seventh place, with four points, while Israel, with only victories, is second, with 11, one behind the leader Greece.
João José, Portugal's coach, highlighted that “we lost things in the early stages, but we gained others. We have to win them right from the start of the game; we need to be more clear-headed and less hesitant about what we have to do”.
The coach also highlighted that “some of the changes we made worked well”, adding that “collectively, I think we were much better than them in the game”, but that individually “they have one or two players there who were better and balanced the game”.
Portugal return to action in the Golden League preliminary round next week in tournament 12, where they face Romania on Friday and hosts Czechia on Saturday.
The four best teams will qualify for the four-way final, which will take place in the Czech Republic at the beginning of July.
During the meeting, a spectator who displayed a Palestinian flag was escorted out of the venue by members of the GNR, and chants of protest against Israel were audible at several points.
