Portuguese quartet crowned champions in their debut in K4 500

The Portuguese K4, made up of Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista and Pedro Casinha, won the gold medal this Saturday in the 500-meter event at the 2025 European Canoe Sprint Championships, in Racice, in the Czech Republic.
The Portuguese quartet – who competed for the first time in a major international event – completed the distance in 1:19.319 minutes, beating the K4 of the host Czech Republic by 213 hundredths and the Polish representation by 323, who finished in second and third place in the A final.
The title won by Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista and Pedro Casinha was the second achieved this Saturday by the Portuguese team, shortly after Fernando Pimenta was crowned European champion in K1 1000 meters, for the fourth time.
