A job seeker from the Novgorod hinterland was sentenced for attempting to steal cable worth over 340 thousand rubles from a company

A resident of the Novgorod region, wanting to find a job, suddenly got the idea of earning a living in another way: when he came to one of the enterprises with the aim of getting a job, he noticed a packed drum with a brand new cable. Soon the man had a plan to profit from this find. And the law enforcement officers had a new criminal case.
David A. attempted to commit his theft, as is evident from the materials of the Okulovsky District Court, on the evening of August 13, 2024. Having come to one of the enterprises in the city of Okulovka under the guise of a job seeker, he found the aforementioned coil of cable on the territory of the plant. Having made his way to the find through an unlocked gate, he thus entered the guarded territory, approached the drum with the cable, rolled it from the storage place, opened the polymer protective film and alternately wound up the cable 42.1 meters and 66.5 meters long.
" The criminal cut the rolled-up parts of the cable with an axe he found and moved them outside the protected area. Then he walked through an unfenced area to the protected area, approached the drum again and began to roll up the cable, but was noticed by the head of the enterprise ," the case materials are quoted by the united press service of the courts of the Novgorod region.
If the citizen had carried out his criminal intent to the end, the plant would have suffered material damage on a large scale – in the amount of 345,240 rubles.
The sentence for the offender, announced the day before in the Okulovsky District Court, was not so severe. The court recognized the following circumstances mitigating the punishment: a confession, active assistance in solving and investigating the crime, partial admission of guilt, remorse for the crime, health condition, assistance to the common-law wife and her child, as well as the health condition of the citizen's common-law wife. As a result, David A. was sentenced to forced labor for a period of 6 months with a 10% deduction from his salary for the benefit of the state. The sentence came into legal force.
