The blowing up of a bridge in the Saratov region has been prevented; a saboteur offered armed resistance during his arrest and was killed, the FSB Public Relations Center reports. "The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has prevented a sabotage and terrorist act in the Saratov region, planned by a supporter of a terrorist organization recognized in Russia and banned. It has been established that the Russian citizen maintained contacts with the Ukrainian side and intended to leave for Ukraine after committing the illegal act to take part in military operations," the report says. It is noted that in order to implement his plan, the suspect planned to blow up a railway bridge using a homemade explosive device stored in his hiding place. During his arrest, at the moment the IED was removed from the hiding place, he offered armed resistance and was killed by return fire. It is also emphasized that during the operational search operations, the following were found and seized at the scene: a ready-to-use IED weighing eleven kilograms, a Makarov pistol and ammunition for it, as well as items of importance to the investigation. "The Investigative Department of the UFSB of Russia for the Saratov Region has opened and is investigating a criminal case on the grounds of the elements of the crimes provided for in paragraph "a" of Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("illegal trafficking in explosives and explosive devices") and Part 2 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("illegal manufacture of explosives, illegal manufacture, alteration or repair of explosive devices"), the issue of initiating a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("terrorist act") is currently being decided," the report adds.
