Emergencies Ministry employees explain to young Novgorodians the dangers of abandoned buildings

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Novgorod Region has disseminated information about the dangers of being in abandoned buildings. The main threat, experts explain, lies in structural violations and dangerous objects. Therefore, entering, and especially playing in such buildings is a big risk.
The main warnings from employees are as follows:
- You must not approach a dangerous object closely, as there is a risk of collapse of its structural elements;
- one should not even try to enter the facility, even if one can get there without hindrance;
- care must be taken with what hangs from the ceiling;
- It is important to remember that the floor may be rotten, the stairs unreliable, support brackets, protruding system remains, pipes, pins, holes - all of this is dangerous;
- You should not enter flooded premises and under no circumstances should you walk near wires – the building may simply be energized, even if it seems that it is completely de-energized;
- It is also forbidden to touch or move the debris - this can simply lead to a “chain reaction” and collapse the entire structure;
- and, of course, going out onto the roof is a big danger.
Let us add that in Veliky Novgorod, joint raids by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the city control and administrative department are regularly carried out at similar sites.
