Russia has proposed a complete ban on the import of red caviar by individuals: if they want to eat it, they will buy it in a store

The head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert believes that in Russia it would be necessary to completely ban the transportation of red caviar for personal use by individuals. The head of the department shared this opinion in an interview with the Izvestia website.

According to him, the current limit of 10 kg for the transportation of red caviar by individuals by air, which was proposed by the governors of the Far Eastern regions, looks a little strange.

"If a person wants to eat caviar, he can buy it in a store or eat it in the regions where it is mined. But the 10 kg criterion is unclear to me," he noted.

Dankvert emphasized that no one controls the quality of caviar carried by citizens, and then people seek medical help. Therefore, the official recalled, his department has long been saying that there should be no movement of such products.

"Yes, this may be unpopular. But we must minimize the risks for citizens, and also reduce the costs for the state, which are then spent on treatment or elimination of the consequences of imported diseases," he said.

Earlier it was reported that Russia may limit the transportation of red caviar on planes for personal use - 10 kilograms per person in a number of Far Eastern regions. This is one of the proposals to control the circulation of caviar and especially valuable fish species and combat poaching.

Later, a similar restriction was proposed for Kamchatka. It was specified that this refers to non-industrial caviar. If there is more caviar in the luggage, such carry-on luggage is not allowed on the flight. By the way, the prohibitive measures expire on August 1, 2025.
