Currently, the ruble-dollar ratio depends primarily on geopolitics and to a large extent on psychology, rumors, expectations, assumptions, and so on, says Vladimir Grigoryev, a candidate of economic sciences and financial expert. In an interview with Lenta.ru, he predicted the future of the exchange rate in March 2025.
"The fact that the new US President [ Donald Trump ] demonstrates a completely different attitude towards Russia than his predecessor, here and the conversation with [ the head of Russia ] Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin], and the meeting of the Russian and American delegations in Riyadh , a certain exchange of positive signals has a colossal impact on the market. It is connected, if not with the lifting, then with the easing of sanctions, which, of course, raises the optimism of investors. In the conditions of easing sanctions, the Russian economy will be more stable and, accordingly, the ruble will be stronger," the expert shared.
He explained that when sanctions are relaxed, access of currency to the country will be easier. If its supply increases, then demand will begin to decrease, and the exchange rate will level out.
"If the restored Russian-American dialogue continues in approximately the same vein, then most likely the ruble will strengthen further, perhaps to 82-83 rubles per dollar, maybe even more. I would say the range is 80-83. If difficulties, frictions, problems arise again, or our financial authorities intervene, for whom a strong ruble is not very beneficial, then the strengthening will stop. This is how I would assess the events that we may see in March," Grigoryev predicted.
Earlier, the Russian Central Banklowered the official dollar exchange rate. According to calculations on Wednesday, February 26, it was 86 rubles (minus 1.57 rubles).
The day before, on February 25, the dollar exchange rate on the over-the-counter market fell below 85 rubles for the first time since August 2024.
