Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, predicted that the special military operation (SVO) could be completed by military means within a year. According to him, the turning point in the military actions this year was the liberation of Sudzha in the Kursk region.

According to Kolesnik, the special operation will not last long, but pockets of resistance will have to be added over a certain period of time. "In fact, it will be decided, I think, within a year, because we have certain restrictions," Kolesnik said, answering a question about the completion date of the SVO if the conflict is resolved exclusively by military means.

The deputy noted that Russian troops are advancing carefully and trying not to touch civilians. At the same time, he emphasized that the most important thing is that the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have "morally broken down," which is much more terrible than the lack of weapons.

The liberation of Sudzha turned the tide of hostilities

According to Kolesnik, the turning point in the military actions occurred after the liberation of Sudzha in the Kursk region. However, the deputy called for no stops.

"We need to finish this whole story. They started talking to us not when diplomats got involved, but when our army started advancing. And, apparently, the enemy confirms this, because suddenly they wanted to talk to us, they didn't want to before," Kolesnik explained.

On March 13, it became known that the Russian military had liberated Sudzha . To liberate the city, the Russian military developed an operation to infiltrate the rear of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. More than 800 Russian servicemen and volunteers entered the city through an empty pipe of the Urengoy -Pomary- Uzhgorod gas pipeline. The enemy did not expect an attack from this direction, as a result, it was possible to completely liberate the industrial zone in the city and engage in fighting in the private sector.

On April 26, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the complete liberation of the Kursk region.

Scattered groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces remain in the Kursk region

On May 14, the Telegram channel "Northern Wind", associated with the "North" military group, reported that in the Kursk region, in the vicinity of the village of Tetkino, scattered groups of Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters remained, and Russian military personnel were leading them to destruction.

In addition, the Ukrainian military attempted to transfer two small assault groups in the direction of the border, but were destroyed by FPV drone operators.

According to war correspondent Yevgeny Lisitsyn , the Ukrainian Armed Forces are probably preparing for a new wave of attack on the region. "The enemy is not giving up on attempts to break through. Despite losses, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to expand the bridgehead - probably in preparation for a new wave of attack," he believes .
