Reuters: Harvard scientist Ksenia Petrova released from custody on bail

Russian scientist Ksenia Petrova, accused of violating US customs regulations, has been released on bail after four months in custody. The decision to temporarily release her was made by a Boston magistrate judge, Reuters reports.
Petrova, a Harvard University researcher and former researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Gene Biology, remains under dual prosecution. In addition to the Trump administration’s deportation proceedings, she faces criminal charges of smuggling biological materials.
The incident occurred in February, when the scientist was detained at a Boston airport while flying from Paris. According to investigators, she was transporting undeclared frog embryos for a colleague at Harvard Medical School, initially denying their presence, but then allegedly admitting to the fact of transportation.
