ATOR Vice President Artur Muradyan denied rumors about a ban on travel to third countries using old-style passports, despite media reports about restrictions in some European countries.
However, he strongly recommended that 10-year biometric passports be issued to adults, since sooner or later the old 5-year passports will no longer be accepted as travel documents.
Muradyan advised getting new passports from the age of 14-16 and noted that a number of Schengen countries no longer accept old passports for visas. The EU directive clearly states: if there is a valid visa in the old passport, travel is possible until it expires, 360.ru quotes the expert as saying.
Earlier, the Federal Passenger Company reported that Lithuanian border guards were mass-disembarking Russians with non-biometric passports from trains. Tourists were advised to buy tickets at least 28 hours before departure and fill out a form on the consulate website.
