The Ministry of Defense has proposed introducing genomic registration of contract soldiers

It is planned that the measure will apply to Russian and foreign citizens who have entered military service "to participate in combat operations, perform tasks during mobilization, in a state of emergency or martial law, wartime, armed conflicts, as well as to participate in activities to maintain or restore international peace and security." In addition, the decision may affect persons serving in the Russian National Guard and holding special police ranks.

The draft law explains that the genomic registration of military personnel will be carried out by units of the Russian internal affairs agencies whose competence includes this type of activity. The procedure for carrying out such a procedure will be determined by the Government of the Russian Federation. Biological material will be stored until the military personnel reach the age of 70 or until the fact of their death is established.

The explanatory note notes that the bill was developed to fulfill the instructions of President Vladimir Putin to improve social protection for family members of military personnel.

Currently, mandatory genomic registration applies to those convicted and serving sentences in the form of imprisonment for committing crimes, suspects, unidentified persons, as well as those subject to administrative arrest, close relatives of missing persons and unidentified corpses.
