Historic 'Gavur Hamam' is for sale at a jaw-dropping price

One of the symbols of Antalya, the historical Kaleiçi, which dates back to the 2nd century BC, is visited by thousands of local and foreign holidaymakers every year. Work is underway to have the district, which is admired by those who see it with its historical structures dating back thousands of years, be included in UNESCO's World Heritage Temporary List. Some of the works in Kaleiçi, which contains values from many historical periods and cultures, are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List.

Historical Gavur Hamam is for sale at a jaw-dropping price

There are 4 baths in some parts of the district, which has been declared a 'Site Area' under protection since 1972. One of these baths is the 'Yenikapı Bath', also known as the 'Gavur Bath'. The 705 square meter bath, which is thought to have been built by the Greeks in the 19th century, has a large dome with 104 elephant eyes on it to allow light in. The bath, which consists of 3 main areas called 'Cold', 'Ilıklık' and 'Sıcalık', attracts the attention of visitors with its workmanship and architecture.

The bathhouse , which also gave its name to the street on which it is located, was operated as a bathhouse by the Turks who came to the city during the population exchange period until 1940. Later used as a warehouse and entertainment venue, and its doors were closed during this period, the bathhouse has defied time for a long time.

Registered as a 'monumental structure' by the Antalya Cultural Heritage Preservation Regional Board, the bathhouse was put up for sale by the decision of its 8 heirs and a 'For Sale' sign was hung on it. Those who saw the 'For Sale' sign on the historical bathhouse, which was put up for sale for 2.5 million dollars, expressed their surprise. (DHA)
