Munich Airport strike crisis: More than 1,600 flights could be cancelled

In a statement made by Munich Airport, it was reminded that the United Service Sector Union (Ver.di) called on employees of various companies at the airport to go on strike for two days on February 27 and 28.
The statement said the strikes were expected to significantly affect transportation operations, and passengers were asked to check their flight status with airlines before arriving at the airport.
Munich Airport serves as one of the main hubs of Lufthansa, one of Europe's largest airline companies.
It is expected that most of the more than 1,600 flights planned at the airport during the strike dates will be cancelled by airlines.
German union Ver.di had earlier called for a strike after the second round of "salary improvement" talks for public sector workers and ground handling staff at Germany's second-largest airport failed.
With the strike initiative, Ver.di aims to improve the wages paid to public and ground services workers at the airport.
The union is demanding an 8% increase in the wages of the employees in question. In addition, the union's demands include an additional allowance of at least 350 euros per month and 3 days of additional leave.
Employers also argue that the union's demands will put them in a financially difficult situation, drawing attention to rising interest rates and high debt.
