Russia fines WhatsApp 17 million rubles

The case filed against WhatsApp was heard in the capital Moscow.

The court ruled that WhatsApp had not complied with the law by not localizing the data of users in the application in Russia and ordered the company to pay a fine of 17 million rubles.

In addition to WhatsApp, various foreign platforms such as Spotify and LinkedIn have also been fined in the country for not localizing user data.
