He saw it in Bodrum and got inspired: He relieves his stress with his hobby

Having worked as a human resources manager in corporate companies for many years, Aldemir became passionately devoted to this hobby, which he started to get away from the stress of business life.

Developing this interest, Aldemir transformed an old barn next to her house in Uzuntarla into a workshop with her own hands. Asuman Aldemir produces night lamps, chandeliers and various decorative ornaments by processing gourds in the workshop.

Aldemir, who stated that he started decorating gourds as a hobby, said, "I give the products I make as a hobby to my loved ones as gifts. I first saw these ornamental gourds in Bodrum Gümüşlük. Frankly, since I am someone who loves making handmade products, instead of buying this, I thought, 'I can do it too' and bought a raw gourd from Gümüşlük. It was not possible to find this gourd around here. Of course, my first attempt was not successful, but then my father started growing gourds in his own garden. I slowly started this business with them. Naturally, I also had to buy materials. For example, beads are hard to procure, you can't find them in many places in Türkiye. My drill is also special. After collecting all my materials, I started making illuminated gourds for fun and I continue to do so."

Providing information about the production process, Aldemir said, "There is a layer on the outside of the raw pumpkin that looks like mold for healthy protection. I wash that layer with wire. Then I draw a picture of the object, it is completely up to your imagination. This is the best part for me anyway. Then I drill it with a drill. After drilling, I sometimes paint it, sometimes I leave it raw. Finally, I attach the bead and light."

Asuman Aldemir emphasized that she does not make her products for commercial purposes and said, "My job is purely for hobby purposes. What is important for me is to enjoy doing it and I enjoy it. I also receive very interesting requests. For example, I am making skulls right now, my friend's son wanted them. I give them as gifts to my nephews, my brother and my cousins who get married."

Speaking about his workshop, Aldemir said, "I planned this place as a hobby. The workshop we are currently in was an old barn. I really liked the decoration I made. For example, I collected the stones I used in the decorations from the stream and made the mortar myself. It is a valuable and important area for me. I turned this place into a living space." Expressing that these activities are a therapy for him, Aldemir said, "I relieve all the stress at work with a hobby. Everything I do with my hands relaxes me incredibly. It can be a gourd lamp or a handicraft. When I started this hobby, they told me, 'You can't finish it Asuman', but I continued steadily in this regard. I think I am successful in this regard. I need physical fatigue. This relaxes me. When I get physically tired, all the stress and trouble in my brain completely disappear. A person should be able to do what they want to do. Sentences like 'I can't do this', 'This is beyond my ability' are not things I prefer or say. It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but you add your own labor and pleasure."
