Years have flown like water: The legendary film is now 40 years old

While Back to the Future carried the cultural reflections of the period in which it was released, it remained in the memory of the audience with its flawless flow and parabolic narrative, which was referenced in many areas from Ronald Reagan to Avengers: Endgame. However, the film also reflected the zeitgeist; details such as the young George McFly's surveillance scene and the Reagan-era materialism made the film unique for its time.
'IT COULD HAVE BEEN WRONGLY INTERPRETED TODAY'According to the Guardian, co-writer Bob Gale said that if they tried to shoot the movie today, studios would misinterpret the relationship between Marty and Doc, saying, "The movie couldn't be made today." Gale explained that after years of searching for a script with director Robert Zemeckis, he found inspiration while looking at his father's high school yearbook and shaped the story by asking, "What would it be like if a kid went back in time and went to high school with his dad?"
After the script was rejected more than 40 times, the project came to life with the support of Steven Spielberg. It was shared that the character of Doc Brown was created by Gale's childhood neighbor and the science program Mr. Wizard, while Christopher Lloyd brought the character to life by taking inspiration from Albert Einstein and Leopold Stokowski.
Eric Stoltz, who was initially cast as Marty, was replaced by Michael J Fox after his serious acting style proved inappropriate for the film. Despite Fox's tiring filming, he also starred in the sitcom Family Ties, but his energy and improvisational skills brought the film its needed light. Lea Thompson stated that Fox studied the physical comedy of the 20s and 30s and brought it to the role, which was one of the most important factors that made the film popular with audiences.
Fox's continued acting despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 29 was described by Thompson as "inspiring." The film's musical was turned into a musical at the suggestion of Zemeckis' wife Leslie, and has been staged around the world from London to New York, reaching new generations.
Bob Gale stated that the success of Back to the Future is due to the perfect harmony of the script, acting and themes, a harmony that is rarely achieved. He stated that the reason why audiences continue to talk about the film even after 40 years is because everyone asks themselves at some point, "How did my family start, how did my parents meet?"
