5 companies owed the state 1.1 billion lira

In its 2023 audit report, the Court of Accounts determined that some 21 distribution companies had failed to pay their electricity bills to the state. When MPs asked, "Which company has failed to pay how much?", Electricity Generation Inc. (EÜAŞ) responded. EÜAŞ disclosed the debt but did not specify which companies were responsible.
CHP Çorum Deputy Mehmet Tahtasız, in response to a question at the State Economic Enterprises (KİT) Commission, "It's being said that the electricity sold to some electricity distribution companies hasn't been collected. Which electricity distribution companies are these? How much is owed from each company and for which year?" EUAŞ responded in writing. EUAŞ stated, "While the distribution and retail sales companies with overdue debts change periodically, as of May 20, 2025, five of the 21 distribution companies had overdue debts, and our total overdue receivables amount to 1.1 billion TL."
3.2 BILLION TL SALES TO SYRIA
The price of electricity Türkiye sells to Syria has also been revealed. EUAŞ announced that direct sales are not possible, and that they are selling electricity through three companies: STE Elektrik, Zeytindalı Elektrik, and Akit Enerji, which hold supply licenses from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA). It was noted that electricity has been sold to Syria since August 2022, generating 3.2 billion Turkish Lira in revenue to date.
In response to criticisms about whether the electricity supplied to Syria affects Türkiye's energy supply security, EÜAŞ responded, "Since the amount of sales made to companies exporting electricity to Syria is far below Türkiye's annual electricity consumption (approximately 2-3 per thousand), it does not have any negative impact on Türkiye's energy supply security."
Wants to increase capacityEnergy and Natural Resources Minister Bayraktar, who visited the Syrian capital Damascus at the end of May for official talks, announced that Türkiye aims to triple its electricity exports to Syria, reaching 1,000 megawatts in the coming months.
Three companies stand outTürkiye has been selling electricity to Syria through three companies, namely STE Electric, Zeytindalı Electric and Akit Energy, since August 2022.
