Collected $890 million from Demirören in 7 years

The Demirören Group, which received an $800 million loan from Ziraat Bank in 2018 and has a total debt exceeding $1 billion, has disclosed its current loan balance for the first time. Ziraat Bank General Manager Alpaslan Çakar, briefing members of the Parliamentary State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee, stated that they have collected a total of $890 million over seven years. It was also announced that Demirören, who used loans to acquire Hürriyet, Kanal D, and CNN Türk, has restructured the loan twice.

"ARE PRIVILEGES PROVIDED BY INSTRUCTIONS FROM ABOVE?"

Çakar said, "The amount collected in the last five years is $337 million. We are effectively managing the process to collect the bank's money." Speaking to the commission, CHP Çorum Deputy Mehmet Tahtasız asked, "Are you applying this practice to our farmers, small business owners, and ordinary citizens, or are you granting these individuals privileges with such prestige and instructions from above?"
