Exorbitant tax also doubles energy bills

CHP Manisa Deputy Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu, reminding that energy inflation increased by five points to 48.1 percent in April 2025, said, “Natural gas and Brent oil prices are going down all over the world, energy inflation was minus 2.8 percent in the EU and minus 3.6 percent in the Eurozone. In Türkiye, it increased exorbitantly to 48.1 percent. The most important reason for this is the tax burden on bills and the movement in foreign exchange.”

'DISTRIBUTION' HIT

Bakıroğlu said the following: “In electricity bills, while the first stage energy fee for residences was 48.2 kuruş and the distribution fee was 85.8 kuruş in January 2024, the energy fee increased to 49.4 kuruş and the distribution fee increased to 183.6 kuruş after April 5, 2025. There is no significant change in the energy fee, but the distribution fee increased by 113 percent. The reason for the swelling of the bills is this wealth transfer to the distribution companies. It is the enrichment of the companies with the sweat of the citizens.”
