Global crude steel production fell 4.4% in January, driven by China

The World Steel Association (Worldsteel), headquartered in Brussels, announced its crude steel production data for January.
Accordingly, global crude steel production decreased by 4.4 percent to 151.4 million tons in the first month of the year compared to the same month in 2024.
It was noteworthy that the production of China, the world's largest steel producer, decreased by 5.6 percent to 81.9 million tons in January.
Japan's production also fell by 6.6 percent to 6.8 million tons.
While crude steel production in the US increased by 1.2 percent to 6.6 million tons in January, Germany's production was calculated to decrease by 8.8 percent to 2.8 million tons.
Crude steel production in Brazil was estimated to have fallen by 4.5 percent to 2.6 million tons in January, and in Russia by 0.6 percent to 6 million tons.
During the period in question, India's production increased by 6.8 percent to 13.6 million tons, while Iran's production decreased by 24.1 percent to 2.2 million.
Turkey's crude steel production decreased by 1.4 percent in January compared to the same period last year, falling to 3.2 million tons.
