He lost his legs while going to celebrate his wedding anniversary.

Kadir and İrem Karatutlu, who live in Kahramanmaraş, married on July 26, 2024. The couple, who are also motorcycle enthusiasts, went to a motorcycle festival in the Kadirli district of Osmaniye to celebrate their first wedding anniversary with friends on July 26. After enjoying the festival, the Karatutlus and their friends were returning to Kahramanmaraş when their motorcycle broke down. A tow truck stopped to assist the couple, who pulled over to the emergency lane and tried to fix the problem. Shortly thereafter, a truck, whose driver lost control, struck former Kahramanmaraş Bar Association President Mehmet Karaaslan and İrem Karatutlu, along with the tow truck and other vehicles on the side of the road.

Irem Karatutlu, who was crushed under a truck in the accident, lost both legs below the knee. Karatutlu, who received treatment at four different hospitals over three weeks, returned home after completing her treatment. Her husband was her biggest supporter during her grueling three-week treatment.

'MY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY WAS A MOMENT I WILL NEVER FORGET'

İrem Karatutlu, a fitness instructor, said she lost both legs on the happiest day of her life. Describing her experience, Karatutlu explained that everything happened so suddenly that she woke up to find herself under a truck. "That day was our wedding anniversary," she said. "We went to a motorcycle festival for our anniversary. We were on our way back. We parked our motorcycles in the emergency lane. After parking in the emergency lane, a tow truck came to help us. Shortly after, I heard a noise and saw the truck approaching. It dragged me for about 600 meters. When I woke up, my legs were crushed under the truck. After three weeks of treatment, I was discharged and returned home. My wedding anniversary was an unforgettable moment, and it turned into hell."

İrem Karatutlu stated that she has been teaching for 8 years and that she will continue her life with prosthetics from now on.

Kadir Karatutlu, emphasizing his deep sorrow over the loss of his wife's legs in the accident that occurred on their anniversary, said, "That day was my wife's anniversary. I took her to a festival to celebrate. We had fun there, but on the way back to Kahramanmaraş, we had to pull over to the emergency lane due to a malfunction. I saw a truck coming towards us, and I threw myself onto the road and screamed. The truck, like a snowplow, dragged everything in its path for 500-600 meters, dragging my wife for 500-600 meters. I was happy to see my wife alive, but I was devastated to see both of her legs missing. Unfortunately, our anniversary ended in pain."
