“Chief of Calligraphers” Hasan Çelebi to be sent on his final journey

Hasan Çelebi, who began his calligraphy career at the age of 24 and was considered the "master of calligraphers", has passed away at the age of 88. Hasan Çelebi, who left his mark on mosques around the world with his calligraphy, has left calligraphy lovers in mourning over his passing. According to a statement from Çelebi's family, a funeral prayer will be held for the master artist who passed away in Istanbul tomorrow at the Büyük Çamlıca Mosque following the noon prayer. Hasan Çelebi will be buried at the Calligraphers' Table in the Karacahmet Cemetery following the funeral prayer.

Born in 1937 in İnci village of Oltu district of Erzurum, Hasan Çelebi, the living master of calligraphy, took lessons from the most famous masters of the period in order to improve himself in the art of calligraphy that he started at the age of 24. Hasan Çelebi, who practiced Thuluth-Nesih from calligrapher Hamid Aytaç and Ta'lik-rik from Kemal Batanay and received his authorization, has exceeded the borders of the country with his mastery, mosque inscriptions, private calligraphy collection and exhibitions. Hasan Çelebi, who has nearly 100 authorized students in different geographies of the world, became the calligraphy master who trained the most students after Hamid Aytaç.
