Starbucks to lay off at least 1,000 people

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol, in his message to employees on the subject, noted that they have completed their evaluation of the role, structure and size of global support teams.

“This includes the difficult decision to eliminate 1,100 existing support associate positions and several hundred additional open and unfilled positions,” Niccol said.

Stating that they simplified the structure of the company and created smaller and more agile teams, Niccol said, "Our goal is to work more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity and provide better integration."
