Grimsby Town, a League 4 team, knocked out Manchester United in the cup

Manchester United were eliminated from the English League Cup second round by Grimsby Town, losing 12-11 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 in normal time.

In the second round of the cup, Premier League team Manchester United hosted 4th League team Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

Grimsby Town took a 2-0 lead with goals from Charles Vernam in the 22nd minute and Tyrell Warren in the 30th. The visitors equalized with goals from Bryan Mbeumo in the 75th minute and Harry Maguire in the 89th minute.

Regular time ended 2-2, leading to a penalty shootout. Grimsby Town, who won 12-11 on penalties, knocked Manchester United out of the cup and advanced to the third round.

Manchester United's goalkeeper was Andre Onana, while national team goalkeeper Altay Bayındır was among the substitutes.
