All About Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, Cher’s Boyfriend

Cher’s relationship with Alexander “AE” Edwards heated back up on Dec. 25, 2022, when the music icon shared a photo on Twitter of a giant pear-shaped diamond ring held by Edwards, displaying the jewelry box and his flame manicure design.

“THERE R NO WORDS,” Cher wrote in the caption, adding, “ALEXANDER, A.E.”

It seemed like an engagement was being strongly implied, but a few hours later, Cher posted the pic again, saying coyly that she posted it “cause his nails are so cool.”

In May 2023, TMZ reported that the couple broke up weeks before, after six months of dating, and were never even engaged. Then, in mid-September 2023, they were reported to be exploring their relationship again.

In October 2024, Cher and Edwards signaled they remain on and strong when they walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show pink carpet together. They remain together in 2025.

Given all that history, here’s what is known about Edwards.

Edwards is the VP of A&R at Def Jam Records, and is known for his relationship with model and reality star Amber Rose. He and Rose got together in 2018, and had a son in 2019, who they named Slash Electric Alexander Edwards. The pair broke up in 2021.

Us Weekly reported on Sept. 18, 2023 that they were exploring reconciliation. “They had stayed in communication even though they called things off a few months ago,” the source said. “They’ve reached a point where they want to give things a second try. They’re not officially back together yet, but they’re enjoying spending time together again and they make each other happy.” The pair was photographed out together days before, on September 15.

Then, during Paris Fashion Week, they made several appearances out together in the city. On Friday, September 28, they arrived at Hotel Costes together in coordinated ensembles. Cher was wearing a black leather jacket over a matching satin dress, while Edwards sported a black tuxedo jacket over a white button-down. Both had platinum blonde hair. That same day, the pair was photographed at the Givenchy show, again coordinated in black ensembles.

On Sunday, October 1, they were seen arriving together at the Valentino show.

On Jan. 6, 2024, Cher seemed to tell her followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she and Edwards were going strong in the new year. She posted a photo of her sitting on his lap. In the picture, she smiles down warmly at him, gently touching his chin.

“Love is love,” she wrote in the caption.

In March, the two were back in Paris again, enjoying fashion shows together.

They then headed to Los Angeles at the end of the month and attended the 3rd annual Attorney Ben Crump EJN Awards on Friday, March 28. Cher wore a jeweled tweed coat; Edwards wore an oversized black suit over a white satin button-down.

On April 6, we saw our first couple sighting of the month. The couple jetted to Milan for Dolce & Gabbana’s 40th anniversary party. Cher wore a black and white fur coat with shredded black pants. Edwards wore a black suit.

On Oct. 15, 2024, the couple attended the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show together.

Cher started tweeting about Edwards in November 2022, sharing heart emojis and pics of him to her fans. They were spotted holding hands in Los Angeles that same month. The 77-year-old singer and 37-year-old artist apparently met in September 2022 at Paris Fashion Week.

Cher said in a tweet that Edwards approached her.

“He’s 36 & In End He Came after me,Till we met in the middle.He’s Consistent one ,I’m The Skittish one. We love each other…. LADIES NEVER GIVE UP,” she wrote.

Later, she discussed their relationship on The Kelly Clarkson Show, addressing the age gap.

“On paper it’s kind of ridiculous but in real life we get along great,” she said. “He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve. But he’s very kind, he’s very smart. He’s very talented and he’s really funny so, and I think he’s quite handsome.”

She added, “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life I would’ve never had a date...older men just didn’t like me all that much....Younger men don’t care if you’re, you know, funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody.”

Sources close to the couple told TMZ on May 1, 2023 that Cher and Edwards quietly broke up weeks before. The exact reason wasn’t disclosed, but the report revealed they were never actually engaged. Edwards had just gotten Cher a diamond ring for the holidays, and they went along with engagement speculation for fun.

The Moonstruck star was married to the late Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975, and then to Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979.

Yes, and the spokesperson shut them down to TMZ on April 16. Days before, fans wondered if something happened to the couple because Edwards was seen at Coachella’s first weekend without Cher. TMZ wrote that the rep said the pair remains “still together romantically and are very happy.” Edwards was at the festival with friends, the rep added, clarifying “there’s no drama behind Cher’s absence.”

After a stay in Monaco, the couple took a helicopter to St. Tropez in late May. The pair were seen walking hand-in-hand at the seaside town on their way to Club 55 for lunch. Cher was wearing a black-and-white ensemble while Edwards was in all-black, including a leather jacket and bandana. They were both wearing sunglasses in the bright beach sun.

Cher was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 19 and Edwards accompanied her to the big event. They were also joined by his son, Slash, and posed for an adorable group photo.

Edwards and Cher had a family night out at Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA premiere in Santa Monica, California. Edwards’s son, Slash, joined them on the red carpet. In certain shots, the couple showed a little PDA.

In March 2024, Cher told E! Online, “I’m going to England to make two albums. Some of the songs Alexander gave me, so I’m pretty excited about that. He’s a producer and a writer and he does everything, so I’m happy about that.”

She added, “I think like any artist, when you’ve got something good, you’re excited.”

In November, she revealed during an interview with Jimmy Fallon that things might be coming to fruition.

Fallon asked, “Could there be another album? Would you do another one?”

Cher answered, “I’m about to.”

A source told Page Six soon after that she’s “really excited” for a recording session planned with Edwards in early 2025.

Cher and Edwards attended the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary event, SNL50, in New York City on February 16. They walked the red carpet wearing matching black.

The singer performed at the main musical event for the big weekend celebration on February 14, where she performed her iconic hit “If I Could Turn Back Time” in a bedazzled body suit.

Cher and Edwards were photographed at the grand opening of Alan Faena’s new West Chelsea hotel on October 11. The couple arrived holding hands and attended a private preview of a Faena Art installation.

“Cher and her boyfriend were very close and stuck together…They seem very much in love and happy to be together,” a source told Page Six.

Another insider added, “She was in great spirits, hanging out with friends and her boyfriend. The entire night felt electric and free.”
