Emma Watson’s Breezy Gingham Dress Is the Perfect Summer Lunch Look

Emma Watson made a stylish arrival in Nice, France, yesterday, and continued showing off her chic summer wardrobe this afternoon in Cannes. The actress was photographed wearing a flowing red gingham dress with tan boots while having lunch at Bièrerie by Brasserie Du Casino.

The Cannes Film Festival is ongoing, with its closing ceremony set for Saturday, May 24. Watson did not reveal which event or red carpet premiere she will be attending, but her return to the French festival event marks her first industry event of the year.

Watson was last seen out at an NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Valentine’s Day. She attended the Cannes Film Festival once before in 2013 for the premiere of The Bling Ring.

Watson has been working on her master’s degree at Oxford University. In December 2023, the star spoke about her choice to step away from acting to focus on academics. “Because I’m in a career that moves very quickly, the decision to take time to do these things felt like a very big decision,” she said. “[Choosing] to go back and write and study and get behind the camera was terrifying for me because I’d never done it before. I had always been in front of the camera; I’d always been an actor.”

She has no regrets though: “I’m just so glad that I did [step away from acting] because I have this feeling of having my own voice and creative space and sovereignty in some way that I don’t think I did before—more autonomy,” she said. “I’m so glad that I allowed things to be messy for a minute and to really allow myself to not know [what’s next], because the knowing that I’ve come to, I wouldn’t trade that for anything.”
