Everything We Know About the New <i>Tomb Raider</i> Series

Lara Croft has been played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and now, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) is taking on the iconic character. A new Tomb Raider live-action series is coming to Prime Video.

“Lara Croft is one of the most recognizable and iconic video game characters of all time,” Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video television head Vernon Sanders said in a statement, per Variety. “We are thrilled to have the wonderfully talented Sophie Turner bring this character to life who is defined by her courage, strength and unshakable resolve. This series will honor the beloved Tomb Raider legacy while delivering fresh adventures to fans worldwide.”

Here’s everything we know about the new adaptation.

Turner is set to star as Lara Croft in the new series.

“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” she said. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many—and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

Additional cast members haven’t been announced yet.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) will serve as the show’s creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge (Good Behavior, Wayward Pines). Jonathan van Tulleken (Shōgun, Top Boy) will be the director and executive producer.

“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving,” Waller-Bridge said. “Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out...Croft is coming.”

The series is set to begin production on Jan. 19, 2026.
