Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Sold for $1 Billion—Here’s What That Means for Her Net Worth
Hailey Bieber celebrated an incredible milestone yesterday: her beauty brand, Rhode, was acquired by e.l.f. Beauty for a whopping $1 billion. Of course, the money doesn’t all go to Bieber, who co-founded the company with Michael D. Ratner and Lauren Ratner in 2022. But the figure has greatly changed the 28-year-old model’s net worth.
First, it’s worth noting how the deal is structured, as Rhode’s owners are getting $600 million in cash upfront, not the full figure. The Hollywood Reporter reported that e.l.f. Beauty will pay “a $600 million cash payment, $200 million in shares of e.l.f. stock to Rhode’s existing equityholders, and a $200 million earnout that would be payable over three years based on hitting performance goals.”
Bieber hasn’t shared how much ownership stake she has in Rhode. Celebrity Net Worth estimates it is 50 to 70 percent of the company. The site puts her new estimated net worth at $300 million. (Forbes has not shared its own estimate yet.) What’s notable is she now has a higher estimated net worth than her husband, Justin Bieber, who is valued at $200 million.
Bieber didn’t just sell her company; she will remain part of it as Rhode’s chief creative officer and head of innovation. (Rhode CEO, Nick Vlahos, will also stay in his role.) “I want to continue to push innovation—innovative products, innovative marketing, and I know they’ll [e.l.f. Beauty] be able to continue helping us,” the model told Women’s Wear Daily.
E.l.f. Beauty chairman and CEO Tarang Amin told WWD that they had been in discussions with Rhode since October. “The momentum and everything that Hailey has fits our ethos as a company, of wanting to invite her into our family and her entire team and be able to transform the beauty industry,” Amin said.
He added, “A billion-dollar deal is the biggest we’ve ever done in our history, which talks about our excitement and our confidence, but also gives a big responsibility to make sure we’re living up to everything Hailey wants and so I’d say that’s going to be the focus for us right now. How much can we grow our brand portfolio? How much can we just continue to disrupt the beauty industry?”
Bieber confirmed the acquisition herself on Instagram and detailed her excitement for Rhode’s future. She wrote:
When I launched @rhode in 2022, I always had big dreams for the company, and the most important thing to me is to keep bringing rhode to more spaces, places, and faces globally. So today I am so incredibly excited and proud to announce that we are partnering with e.l.f. Beauty as we step into this next chapter in the world of rhode. I found a like-minded disruptor with a vision to be a different kind of company that believes in big ideas and innovation in the same way that I do and will help us continue to grow the brand. I feel invigorated, excited and more ready than ever to step into an even bigger role as Chief Creative Officer, and Head of Innovation of rhode as well as strategic advisor to e.l.f. Beauty. Thank you to the amazing rhode team who have helped me build over the years. I couldn’t have done it without all of you. And to our rhode community, thank you for being the most supportive and for being on this journey, this next chapter is going to be even more incredible together! As I’ve said, this is only the beginning. 🤍
