Morrisons shoppers could save £550 a year through brand new supermarket scheme

Morrisons is offering millions of Brits discounts worth around £550 a year through a new money-saving scheme.
The supermarket chain is offering 10% discounts to disabled customers who spend more than £25 on their groceries online. The scheme is the result of a new partnership between Morrisons and the discount platform Purpl. According to Morrisons, the move will help 16.1 million people in the UK - or 24% of Brits who currently live with a disability.
According to Morrisons, families who spend £117 a week on food could save £11.70 per week, £46.40 per month, and £556.80 annually by using the Purpl discount scheme.
To access the exclusive discount, customers need to sign up for the free discount platform, Purpl, and verify their disability status with accepted documentation such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), a Blue Badge, a Disabled Bus Pass, a Disabled Persons Railcard or Access Card. Members can then be verified by Purpl within an hour, and their discount code can be applied online on the Morrisons checkout page.
The partnership with Purpl will start as a trial although Morrisons has not yet confirmed how long it will be running for.
Charlotte Exell, Director of Online and Ability Lead for Morrisons, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Purpl to help make Morrisons more accessible to customers living with a disability. We know from listening to our disabled customers that they often face a number of additional living expenses and so this trial will help lower the cost of their grocery bills.”
Shoppers can use the discount alongside their Morrisons More loyalty card. Like other loyalty schemes, Morrisons More allows customers to earn points when they spend in-store and online but they only earn points on selected products.
The more selected products you buy, the more points you earn. If you accrue 5,000, you get a More Card Fiver, which is worth £5. Morrisons More members also receive exclusive offers and personalised discounts, which they can cash in each week.
Shoppers using the Purpl discount can opt to have their shopping delivered straight to their home on the same day, or place an order up to four weeks in advance for either a home delivery or Click & Collect slot. Alternatively, they can choose a same-day Express or Click & Collect service. Deliveries are made nationwide and the price of a delivery slot starts from £1.50.
Purpl was created in July 2024 by Georgina Colman, who lives with multiple sclerosis and ADHD. She created the platform to help ease the additional living costs associated with disabilities.
Scope estimates that on average, disabled households need an additional £1,010 a month, equivalent to £12,120 annually, to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households.
Along with discounts at Morrisons, Purpl members can enjoy deals on other brands like Hoover, Sky, Green People, Debenhams, and hundreds of others. The platform also provides advice and guidance for those living with a disability.
Georgina Colman, Founder of Purpl, added: “I am so proud that we’ve been able to partner with Morrisons to offer this discount. I know first-hand that living with a disability can be expensive so I’m very pleased that we can help our members with something as essential as their weekly grocery shop.
"The process of getting dressed, going to a store, buying groceries, and taking them back home can take a lot of time and is often more expensive and physically straining for disabled people. By partnering with Morrisons, I hope we can make life easier and more affordable for the disabled community.”
