1923 family tree unveils how Spencer Dutton is related to Yellowstone's John Dutton

Yellowstone 1923 featured Spencer Dutton (portrayed by Brandon Sklenar) falling for a British woman named Alex (Julia Schlaepfer), who left her fiancé. The couple braved the treacherous sea to aid the Duttons in Montana.

Season two, set to premiere on February 23, will follow Spencer and Alex on their separate journeys after being torn apart at sea. Spencer is still striving to return home to Montana after receiving a distressing letter from Cara (Helen Mirren), who expressed fears of losing the ranch.

Meanwhile, Alex vowed to find Spencer, and the upcoming season is expected to track her quest to reunite with her husband.

Spencer Dutton left the Montana ranch to join the war effort, risking his life for his country. Although he emerged physically unharmed, the experience left him mentally scarred.

Working as a big game hunter in Africa, he was far removed from his family back at the ranch. As one of the breakout stars of the series, fans are curious about his relation to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) from the original series.

Spencer Dutton is the younger son of James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) from the 1883 series. He is also the younger brother of John Dutton Sr (James Badge Dale).

Given that James Dutton from 1883 was John Dutton's great-grandfather, this makes Spencer one of John's grandfathers.

Either he or his brother John Sr will father a child who will grow up to be John Dutton's dad, seen in flashbacks in the original series. Cara has frequently penned letters to Spencer, questioning why he abandoned the family.

She confessed that she constantly thought of him during her moments of loneliness. Fans will have to hold their breath to see if Spencer decides to return to his family in Montana.

1923 is set to air on The Paramount Network and Paramount Plus on February 23.
