BLACKPINK's Rosé's Hair Evolution, From Debut to Now — See Photos

BLACKPINK's Rosé swept a number of nominations for the MTV VMAs 2025 tonight. And while we'll have to wait until the red carpet to see if she'll be in attendance, we still can't help but wonder what the K-pop idol will wear, or more specifically, what hairstyle she'll have.
She'll likely be platinum blonde of course. It's her signature look after all. And in an interview with Vogue, she shared that she wished she was even more blonde in the past.
Indeed, before she became the blondé she is now, Rosé had to commit to it. Over the years, she's progressively gone lighter, save for a few surprise pops of color, allowing her to have her signature blonde shade now. She's kept things fun by opting for different tones like strawberry, lilac, and more.
She's similarly experimented with different styles. Before her ringlet curls, she sported long, straight hair and mermaid waves. Updos are also her forte, as she has looks that seem effortless and cool, which is right in line with her sense of personal style. So, if she does attend the VMAs 2025, what she does could be anyone's guess.
Below, we revisit some of Rosé's most iconic hairstyles throughout the years.
Though Rosé was first introduced with pink hair in BLACKPINK's debut music video, “Whistle,” she went on to sport a warm blonde tone later that year as seen at the 2016 Melon Music Awards.
At the Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards, Rosé debuted slightly lighter ends and opted for soft curls.
In her “As If It's Your Last” era, Rosé sported chocolate brown hair. At SBS Gayo Daejeon, she styled it in cascading curls.
Rosé went for one of her most bold colors for “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.” She did the cherry cola hair trend way before it went viral. The deep hue stood out at the Waterbomb festival in 2018.
Later that year, Rosé returned to blonde, but this time, she opted for a slightly lighter shade in an ashy tone. For this Alexander McQueen event, she slightly curled her money pieces and the ends of her hair.
In early 2019, Rosé took her hair a level brighter. The top layer of her hair started to pick up cooler undertones. And she also started to wear a middle part. As they say, “New year, new me!”
By April, Rosé had achieved her signature light, cool-toned blonde hair, just in time for Coachella. For the festival, the singer wore beachy waves — very California and perfect for all her hair flips throughout the performance.
2019 was a big year because we also got a sneak peak of Rosé's strawberry blonde era. At Saint Laurent's Paris Fashion Week show, she opted for the hue and tucked her hair back for a high-fashion look.
Soon enough, Rosé was back to her usual blonde, leaving us wondering what could have been, but not for long.
Like many of us, Rosé underwent a hair transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the “How You Like That” music video, Rosé went for her lightest hair color: a platinum blonde that was almost silver. While promoting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, her hair seemed to develop a hint of lilac, but we're not quire sure whether that was intentional or perhaps from using purple shampoo to keep brassiness at bay.
For her Met Gala debut, Rosé stuck to platinum blonde. She tied her hair back in a messy ponytail with a few face-framing layers loosely curled.
That same month, Rosé jetted off to Paris Fashion Week for Saint Laurent and revamped a similar look, going with a low pony and a bow adornment instead.
For “Shut Down” and its promotions, Rosé debuted one of her shortest hair lengths ever. She also opted to go back to a warm-toned blonde and revisited her strawberry blonde color. This time, it stuck around for a while.
At LACMA, Rosé gave her hair the attention it deserved, wearing a black hooded dress that contrasted her blonde hair. She wore it in a braid with layers falling out to frame her face.
For BLACKPINK's second Coachella run — this time as headliners — Rosé opted for a similar wavy style but with her strawberry blonde hue this time.
By September, Rosé was back to her platinum blonde look. A fitting choice for the coming fall and winter days.
Rosé put a twist on a classic updo by pinning her bangs down. A posh look fit for a queen, or at least, with the queen.
Rosé seemed to be heading towards the styling of her rosie era as early as April 2024. At the start of the month, she had debuted tightly curled tresses in Dazed Korea. She also wore her hair in tighter waves for this Rimowa event later that month.
Just a few months later, Rosé had fully leaned into the curly hair look. Though she had her hair in an adorable coquette updo, she curled her curtain bangs.
Starkly contrasting the curls, Rosé was spotted in New York City with a her sleek straight hair in a Y2K-style platinum blonde spiky updo, complete with a deep side part.
For a rosie listening party, Rosé wore her hair in rope braid pigtails. And if you're wonder what her hair looked like after taking them out, you luckily don't have to!
The very next day, Rosé had a slight curl to her long blonde hair. Perhaps from the braids the day before! She also brought back the side part again, and we can't help but wonder if it's here to stay this time!
Leave it to Rosé to make mermaid waves work in late fall.
For the Met Gala 2025, she opted for more subtle waves, but kept the mermaid vibes with the wet look.
While off-duty during BLACKPINK's tour, the singer stepped out and showed off her ultra long hair. Putting a spin on her go-to blonde waves, she opted for a half-up, half-down look.
