Cult mockumentary with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score is now streaming for free

The BBC have dropped five episodes of a critically acclaimed mockumentary series that stars Diane Morgan of Motherland and Mandy fame.

Diane plays Philomena Cunk, a clueless investigative reporter with deadpan delivery in the mockumentary series Cunk on Earth. The show follows the character of Cunk as she interviews real-life experts such as historians and archaeologists in her signature aloof style. It's never completely clear whether the people she interviews are in on the joke.

Throughout the series, Cunk takes on topics from religion to the renaissance with a darkly humorous spin. She visits locations from museums to universities in a humorous bid to answer life's big questions.

Critics from around the world have heaped praise on Cunk on Earth and it holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Dan Einav from the Financial Times said: "It’s such a fine line, This Is Spinal Tap once taught us, between stupidity and cleverness. And it’s one that Cunk On Earth, a new mockumentary series... treads masterfully." While Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune dubbed it: "The funniest mockumentary around."

The show has also received a warm reception from fans on social media. Taking to X, one viewer said: "I CANNOT stop howling at that woman", adding: "Best thing I’ve watched in 2025 so far." Another said: "Watched cunk on earth for like 2 hours she’s hilarious how did i not see this sooner."

BBC iPlayer also hosts many of Philomena Cunk's other outings, including Cunk on Britain, and festive special Cunk on Christmas.

Cunk on Earth was written by a team including Charlie Brooker who previous works include Black Mirror.
