Culture Watch: What to See and Where to Go in August

Shakespeare in the Park is back after a two-year hiatus—and this season, it’s bringing Brooks Brothers along for the ride. The quintessentially preppy brand has partnered with the beloved (and famously hard-to-score) free theater program at the newly renovated Delacorte Theater in New York City’s Central Park. The production? A star-studded rendition of Twelfth Night, featuring Sandra Oh, Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Dinklage, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson—each outfitted in Brooks Brothers designs, from custom-tailored pinstripe suits to coats adorned with embroidered florals. The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort is at once an art-filled escape and a family-friendly beachside destination offering a wide range of activities for all. Within the hotel lies a beautiful series of stacked bulbous sculptures by Lorraine Franco, titled “Totem to Remember.” The vertical ceramics pay tribute to the Taíno culture by representing its ancestry and shared memory. Many of the artists featured are located in the Dominican Republic. The mural inside the St. Regis Bar is by Santo Domingo-based Citlally Miranda, while a conceptual hammock was created by local design studio Atrezzo. Though the St. Regis is frequently associated with its hotels, its portfolio of resorts is filled with on-property experiences for all ages, including a spa and relaxing poolside retreat. Much of the atmosphere is family-focused—the destination offers plenty of activities for the kids. With youth-dedicated yoga, tennis, and movie nights, the resort is an idyllic place where the whole family can sink their toes in the sand, immerse themselves in a world of local art, and enjoy the scenic landscape.
