Disney+ viewers brand new Disney+ series about influencer 'on another level sick'

Scamanda official trailer
A newly released Disney+ documentary series has sparked outrage among viewers, shedding light on the shocking case of an American influencer who fabricated a cancer diagnosis and amassed over $100,000 in donations.
Scamanda delves into the story of Amanda C Riley, who falsely claimed to have been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2012.
Riley skillfully crafted a social media persona across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and her blog, Lymphoma Can Suck It, duping family, friends, church members, and online followers into sending her money for fake medical treatments and support. In reality, Riley had never received a cancer diagnosis and used the funds to finance her lifestyle.
The documentary series, adapted from a popular podcast by Charlie Webster, premiered on Disney+ on February 21. Scamanda consists of four episodes and has sparked heated discussions on social media platform X.
The Express reports viewers expressed their disbelief and disgust at Riley's actions, labelling Scamanda a "decent documentary" and commenting, "I can't believe the lengths this evil woman went to".
One viewer wrote: "I've been watching Scamanda on Hulu and this lady PLAYED! Lied about having cancer, got millions of dollars from orgs and her own church!"
One astounded viewer vented: "She was playing in them folk CHURCH! Only got 5 years in prison which is insane"
Another joined in with equal disgust, saying: "Scamanda has me beyond flabbergasted. Faking cancer for profit is one thing but what she did to her husband's ex and their children is on another level sick. The pettiness from the tipster waiting years for the demise was truly iconic - she is so me in 30 years."
A third person commented: "I watched the documentary Scamanda which is about a woman who collected HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars by faking cancer."
"It’s amazing how someone could have that much time on their hands to pull a stunt like that. It’s unconscionable."
The new true crime documentary comes hot on the heels of Netflix's release of Apple Cider Vinegar, delving into the life of infamous influencer Belle Gibson. Gibson conned the world into believing her brain cancer was cured through diet changes and alternative therapies.
The Australian wellness con artist cashed in on her fictitious health battle, duping thousands alongside racking up a hefty sum from a book deal based on her fabricated story.
The six-part series dissects her fabricated journey to fame, her early grasp of Instagram, and how she failed to forward the charitable donations she pledged.
Scamanda is out on Disney Plus in the UK.
