Florence Pugh in 'utter shock' after discovering 'crazy' truth about family's past

Actress Florence Pugh made a surprising discovery about her family's past on a brand new series that combines genealogy with cooking. The star was left in 'utter shock' during her appearance on No Taste Like Home with Antoni Porowski.
The six-part series, executive produced by Gordon Ramsay, is available to stream on Disney+ from today (February 24). Queer Eye star Antoni acts as host, accompanying celebrities as they learn about their ancestors via the medium of food.
In the episode titled 'Florence Pugh's English Odyssey', Florence and Antoni headed to Oxford, where the actress grew up, before venturing to Yorkshire, Whitby and London as they traced her ancestors' movements and the food they enjoyed. However, one surprising revelation about her lineage left the star in 'utter shock'.
As the pair ate oysters in London's Columbia Road, Antoni handed Florence a piece of paper which had a crucial detail about the daughter of her great, great, great grandparents, Johannah Becht.
"You know we were introduced to little Johannah today? Well she grew up and she met a Welsh man by the name of Lewis Pugh," Antoni began. "That's where the Pugh came in."
Johannah and Lewis went on to have a daughter who it was swiftly revealed was named Florence Pugh, born in 1882, prompting the present-day Florence's mouth to drop open. "No!" she exclaimed. "I feel quite emotional. There's already been a Florence Pugh."
"Your parents never mentioned anything?" Antoni asked, as Florence explained her family named her after the city. "My parents had no idea. I was named after the city. My mum's going to scream," she said, before later admitting that she was still in "utter shock" after learning of her namesake.
In a tragic twist, it was revealed that 19th Century Florence Pugh didn't make it past her fifth birthday.
"Because of the air quality and the pollution here, quality of life was really tough," Antoni began. "Little Florence, unfortunately just shy of her fifth birthday, passed away. Most probably from tuberculosis, that was the case with most children in those times."
Alongside Florence, the other celebrities taking part in the series include actor Henry Golding, musician and actress Awkwafina and the Emmy-nominated Issa Rae. National Geographic Channel will also broadcast the episodes, with the first featuring Florence airing on February 26 at 10pm.
The series synopsis reads: "From Italy, Germany and the UK to Senegal, South Korea and Borneo, Antoni takes celebs on epic journeys to explore their ancestral and culinary roots."
All episodes of No Taste Like Home with Antoni Porowski are available to stream now on Disney+. The first episode will also be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel at 10pm on February 26.
