Why Was Hannah Smith Criminal Charges Dropped

The Legal Disposition of the Smith Case

Prosecutors in Cobb County, Georgia, entered a Nolle Prosequi disposition in Smith’s case on October 13, 2024. This Latin legal term, meaning “unwilling to pursue,” formally indicates that the state has chosen to drop the criminal charges, ensuring the former reality TV star would not face a trial. This decision brought an end to the felony charges that had been pending against her for nearly a year.

Conditions Leading to the Charges Being Dropped

The dismissal was the direct result of Smith fulfilling specific court-mandated requirements before her scheduled trial date. According to obtained court documents, she successfully completed a 40-hour anger management course and performed 40 hours of community service.

She also underwent a drug and alcohol screening; the results concluded that no further treatment was necessary. The filing also noted that Smith had no prior criminal record, which influenced the decision to exonerate her.

The Concert Incident and Alleged Threats

The charges stemmed from an event on September 30, 2024, at a Gracie Abrams concert in Atlanta. Police were called because Smith was being disorderly, and she allegedly attempted to punch and kick the arresting officer while being escorted to an Uber, though she failed to make contact.

Following the incident, Smith retreated from public view and social media. In a personal update shared on Instagram before deleting her account, she revealed that she had been sober from alcohol for eight months and had formed a new relationship with God, which included being baptized. She wrote about having been in a “dark place” and struggling with extreme anxiety after the incident, but expressed that she was working on moving forward.

After her arrest, Smith’s legal representative, Mike Hawkins, told TMZ that the reality star had no memory of the events that “occurred during, or after the concert.” He stated that Smith was “deeply troubled by these events” and regretted “any actions she took that offended anyone, including law enforcement.” Smith was released from Cobb County Jail the day after her arrest on an $8,000 bond, which came with conditions prohibiting alcohol and non-prescription drug use.
