Netflix fans ecstatic as 'underrated' show returns with unlikely star in key role

Netflix's Power, starring 50 Cent and Omari Hardwick, has made a triumphant comeback to the streaming platform, complete with a beloved Irish character.
The high-octane series quickly became a sensation after its initial release on Netflix in 2014. It starred Omari Hardwick as undercover gangster drug lord Ghost, his partner-in-crime Joseph Sikora as the charming Irish-American rogue Tommy Egan, and 50 Cent in a prominent role.
The cult favourite received glowing praise on social media, with the episodes revolving around 'Who Killed Ghost?' nearly causing an internet meltdown.
Fans were heartbroken when it was removed from the streamer a few years ago and campaigned for its return at the end of 2024.
Viewers took to Reddit to express their admiration for the show. One fan gushed, "Honestly Power has been my all time favourite TV show. I can't think of anything that comes close. So underrated," reports the Irish Star.
Another praised the Irish gangster Tommy Egan, saying, "Tommy Egan is one of the most beloved and ruthless characters in Power."

The series, which ran for six seasons and inspired spin-offs including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force, among others, received high praise from Rotten Tomatoes, earning a score of 81 percent.
They wrote, "It appears James "Ghost" St. Patrick has it all - a drop-dead gorgeous wife, a stunning Manhattan penthouse, and the power and success that come with owning hot new nightclub Truth. But a closer look reveals a man living a double life.
"Ghost splits his time between running his Fortune 500 company and catering to the needs of his other business: a lucrative drug empire serving the wealthy elite.
"While his trusted sidekick Tommy fiercely guards their profitable narcotics operation, Ghost sees Truth as more than just a front for money laundering - it's his ticket out.

"It's a chance to leave the drug trade behind and build a legitimate life with his family, even if everything he holds dear is unknowingly at risk. Power is co-executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (who also co-stars) and show creator Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife)."
Just last December, the Irish Star reported that fans were clamouring for the return of the Starz show on Netflix, where they could watch it for free.
One fan expressed on Reddit, "Wished Power, the spin-offs were on Netflix cuz the shows would be more successful and would've brought the actors more success. " Another fan commented, "Netflix cancels their good shows for no reason."
Cybernet explained the show's cancellation, stating, "Netflix's decision to cancel popular shows can be attributed to several factors: Cost vs. Viewership. Even if a show is popular, its production costs may be too high relative to its viewership metrics."
