Tate McRae Sports Ballerina Sneakers, the Coquette Shoe Trend of Summer 2025

If you don't have a pair of ballerina sneakers in your lineup yet, you're going to want to grab some ASAP, because Tate McRae just gave the trend her stamp of approval — with a fun little twist from a fellow music superstar.

The pop star posted an Instagram Story of her current footwear du jour, snapping a pic of her shoes (and a bright Hello Kitty bathroom mat) and sharing it to her millions of followers. In the pic, she's wearing the Adidas x Bad Bunny Ballerina Sneaker, a currently sold-out shoe from the musician's collaboration with the sportswear giant. McRae's shoes are a sunny yellow with the instantly recognizable three stripes on the side, with elastic ties instead of traditional shoelaces.

OK, so McRae's ballerina sneakers are a little different from the ballerina sneakers that have taken over social media—hers don't have the traditional open top—but the almond-shaped toe and laces are definitely ballerina sneaker-adjacent. We spotlighted the shoe style as one of our biggest sneaker trends for spring and summer 2025, and brands like Puma, Sandy Liang x Salomon, and Jeffrey Campbell are in on the action. The ballerina shoe is a hybrid of the ballet flat and a sneaker, with a slip-on body and rounded or almond toe and stretchy laces that can be wrapped atop the foot or around the ankle, making it both sporty and sweet. Plus, we know McRae is a dancer, so this style probably felt like second nature to her.

If the Tate McRae take on ballerina-inspired shoes aren't your thing, no problem! There are tons of options for this season, like taekwondo-inspired shoes, Tabi-style shoes with split toes, and even boxing shoes. Check them all out here!
