Unforgotten ending explained as Gerry's killer finally revealed

This article contains spoilers for the final episode of Unforgotten.
Unforgotten has once again gripped TV fans with its sixth series, which has been airing on ITV. The popular show has taken viewers on another enticing journey as the investigation into Gerry Cooper's murder takes place.
Gerry's remains were found on Whitney Marsh, and it was later revealed that he is the missing husband of Juliet Cooper. She was left wondering what had happened when her husband suddenly vanished one day and had begun to think that figures from his past had been involved.
However, it was revealed that Gerry was leading somewhat of a double life, having found himself in debt during the Coronavirus pandemic and living a life of lies. Yet, it was still unclear who had killed him, with many suspects in the frame.
The final episode of the sixth series—which is available to stream in full on ITVX—explains exactly what happened on the day of Gerry's disappearance and unveils the true culprit.
To begin with, Marty is in the frame due to breaking and entering into Juliet's house, as well as Asif Syed, who had been furious at Gerry after his young son died due to damp conditions in one of Gerry's homes. However, both are cleared.
Attention soon turns to a voicemail supposedly left by Gerry on the day of his death, however it soon becomes clear that the killer must be behind the voicemail. After looking into the location of the call and other clues, attention turns to Juliet as the police grow very suspicious of her.
She asked about what happened on her final night with Gerry, and Juliet admitted they'd been having marital issues. She confessed a row had broken out, and he had turned violent. As she was in the middle of cooking a meal at the time of the row, Juliet revealed she accidentally stabbed Gerry while he was attacking her. She claimed he bled out while she hid in the bathroom, and she later disposed of his body.
However, Jessica soon pointed out that Juliet's timeline was incorrect and didn't line up with the time logs on Gerry's phone. It soon became clear Juliet was lying, but who was she covering for?
Soon, Jessica and Sunny managed to interview Juliet's daughter, Taylor, and the answers all became clear. Taylor revealed she'd stabbed her father in the leg to stop him attacking her mum. As Gerry was so upset that his daughter hurt him, Juliet whisked Taylor away and put her to bed. She then told her daughter her dad had headed to work as normal, not informing her of his death.
So, Taylor had unknowingly killed her father Gerry by stabbing him in the leg while defending her mum. However, as Juliet had removed her from the situation before she could witness the bleeding, Taylor never knew Gerry was seriously hurt.
Jessica later receives confirmation from the CPS that it's not in the public interest to charge Taylor or Juliet. Therefore, nobody is arrested for Gerry's death.
Unforgotten season 6 is now available to stream in full on ITVX. Episodes also air weekly on ITV1 every Sunday and Monday at 9pm.
