Why Does Emma Stone Look Like She’s Wearing a Trash Bag on Vogue’s September 2025 Cover?

After a 37-year stint, Anna Wintour is set to step back as editor-in-chief of Vogue. As we await the appointment of a head of editorial content, Wintour’s final issues are upon us. Over recent months, we’ve seen the long-serving icon of Vogue welcome back some old favorites as cover stars like Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Anne Hathaway. Another Vogue regular is welcomed back onto the cover with open arms for September 2025 in the form of Emma Stone. Nine years after her last, the American actress poses on the magazine’s all-important September edition via the lens of the photographer Jamie Hawkesworth. Styled by Grace Coddington, Stone poses in a sequined cape from Louis Vuitton and a pair of blue jeans.

“I like the smile, and that’s about it. What an underwhelming cover offering for what is considered the biggest event in print. The styling of the jeans definitely feels like a tribute to Anna Wintour’s first cover,” said vogue28.
Mepps used the word “awful” to describe the cover.
“This is absolutely terrible for a September Vogue cover! Have the standards really dropped this low?” asked a dumbfounded vogue22.
Also majorly underwhelmed was Kanzai. “Wake me up when a September issue is a hit again. How depressing,” they shrieked in disbelief.
“A crazy happy Emma Stone in cheap jeans paired with an unflattering garment of LV that costs a fortune, for sure, reflects the state we are in right now just perfectly,” FashionFanatico remarked.
“I feel like I’ve seen worse but the glossy black top kinda looks like she’s wearing a trash bag,” expressed forum member bgekk.
