BT offers free broadband but we found a better deal - check your postcode now

If you think your broadband connection could be much faster then you’d be wise to spend some time searching for the best deals. Currently, household telecoms firm BT is offering three months of free broadband when you sign up to a new 24-month contract on its Fibre 2 plans.
When applied to my home address, this gets me three months free of the Fibre 2 72-73Mbps speed tariff, which then goes up to £32.99 per month on month four. There are then price increases on March 31, 2026 and 2027.

Three free months of service is a solid deal, but that 73Mbps speed is pitiful by modern standards. That’s why I’ve scoured the web to find a much better deal, provided you live in an area where this rival broadband offering is available.
Community Fibre is also offering three months of free broadband service when you sign up but the speeds on offer leave BT in the dust.
Whether you opt for a 12- or 24-month contract with the London-wide fibre broadband provider, you won’t pay a penny for the first three months, saving you up to a possible £177 on bills. These offers end on May 13, 2025.
That maximum amount saved applies to the 24-month 5Gbps plan, which usually costs £59 per month. 5Gbps is 5,000Mbps, a great deal faster than BT’s offer of 73Mbps.
If you live in London, you’re in luck. Community Fibre services every borough in London, according to the firm, but double check by heading to the company’s website and entering your postcode to check it’s available at your address.

Community Fibre runs its own “altnet”, an alternative network, to rival BT’s Openreach network. This means it can offer superior speeds in some London areas compared to BT.
As well as the 5Gbps plan, you can also get three months free on the 1Gbps plan, which is currently just £25 per month from month four, or the 300Mbps plan, which is £21 after the first three months.
All three of these plans are faster than the BT option, and two are significantly cheaper.
If you’d prefer a 12-month contract, Community Fibre will give you three months of 1Gbps service for free, before charging £32 per month. The 300Mbps plan for the same period is £28 from month four.
As with BT, Community Fibre’s monthly prices rise slightly each March, so be sure to check in the terms and conditions exactly how much you’ll pay so you don’t encounter any bill shock.
I am a Community Fibre customer in London on the 1Gbps plan, and it’s an excellent service. And no, before you ask, this is not sponsored. Community Fibre offers a genuinely very good product at a much faster speed - and better price - than most competitors. I’d take three months free, if I could, but I'm already signed up.
These deals all have no set up fee, and the router is included. So, if you live in London and are fed up with dodgy broadband speeds, this deal could be the one for you. Just remember to sign up before May 13, 2025.
