Amazing Photo Emerges As Former Roscommon Star Wins 12th County Medal

Thirteen years ago, a nine-year-old Bobby Nugent stood proudly beside Senan Kilbride for a photo after the 2012 Roscommon senior football final, a wide-eyed supporter celebrating St Brigid’s latest county title with one of its most iconic figures.
Fast forward to Saturday afternoon in Dr Hyde Park, and that same Bobby Nugent wasn’t just back at the scene, he was starring in the county final replay, sharing the pitch and the victory with the very man he once idolised.
Nugent and Kilbride were both in the starting fifteen as St Brigid’s overcame Pádraig Pearses, 1-16 to 1-12, to claim the club’s 19th Roscommon SFC crown. It capped off a remarkable full-circle moment for Bobby Nugent and a remarkable return for Senan Kilbride.
Having spent the last five years living in Dubai, Kilbride made his first championship start since 2020 and marked it with his twelfth Roscommon senior title, a staggering haul for one of the county’s all-time greats.
But it was Nugent who took centre stage on this occasion, finishing as joint top scorer with 0-5 from play, level with Ben O’Carroll. His movement, confidence and finishing were key to Brigid’s success, and you’d imagine the young fan from 2012 would’ve scarcely believed it if you told him what lay ahead.
The image from that 2012 final, of a beaming young Bobby Nugent beside Senan Kilbride, has taken on new meaning in the aftermath of Saturday’s win. It’s the kind of story that every GAA club cherishes: the next generation inspired by the last, before eventually taking to the field together.
And for St Brigid’s, it was the perfect blend of youth and experience that got them over the line once again.
