Amherst PVYBL Koufax falls to Brattleboro to close out season

The 2025 summer season has come to a close for the Amherst PVYBL Koufax youth baseball team, as the Hurricanes fell shy of a postseason title following their regular season championship.
On Saturday, Amherst defeated Whitingham (Vt.) 13-5 as its offense erupted for 16 hits in a huge win at Deerfield Academy. The Hurricanes returned to the field later in the day to take on Brattleboro (Vt.), which put up a crooked number in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 19-3, five-inning victory over Amherst.
To start the day, Whitingham held a 4-3 lead in the third before the Hurricanes pulled away with five runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and four more in the seventh. Gus Garret Peltier, Cyrus Arwade, Oliver Howard (team-high four RBIs) and Tristan Feeley racked up multiple hits in the win.
Arwade and Brady Klaes handled the pitching for Amherst, with Arwade covering the first five innings — picking up the win — and Klaes sealing the deal with two innings of relief.
Amherst came out of the blocks a bit slow in game two, perhaps a bit weary from the earlier contest, and the potent Brattleboro bats put up eight in the top of the first. The Bears didn’t look back and ended the ‘Canes playoff run after five innings. Brady Klaes, Daniel Lebron, Oliver Howard and Nick Stinson provided the only offense for Amherst.
The Hurricanes finished the season with a record of 14-5-1, including the PVYBL regular season title.
