Another two-point controversy erupts in Offaly SFC

The Offaly SFC has been hit by a two-point controversy which occurred during last Sunday’s quarter-final between Ferbane and Shamrocks.
Ferbane edged a thrilling encounter by 3-15 to 2-17 at Glenisk O’Connor Park, but Shamrocks have now lodged an appeal to Offaly CCC against the result amid claims that Ferbane’s Adam Egan was incorrectly awarded a two-pointer in the fifth-minute. Video footage would suggest that Egan’s effort was kicked from just inside the new 40-metre arc.
The appeal was also lodged without Shamrocks joint-managers John Monaghan and Brian Kinnarney being consulted, and they have reportedly stepped down from their positions in protest.
The objection could hamper Ferbane’s preparations for their upcoming Offaly SFC semi-final against Edenderry after they outscored their Rahan-parish opponents by 1-6 to 0-2 down the home stretch to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
There have been similar controversies recently in Mayo and Fermanagh with mixed outcomes. While Hollymount’s objection to a contentious Kilmaine two-pointer in the Mayo IFC came to nought, a replay was ordered in the Fermanagh Division 1 League final after a video review confirmed that two late Derrygonnelly two-pointers against Erne Gaels were actually kicked from within the 40-metre arc.
