Burns rules out bid for Áras

Jarlath Burns won’t be swapping the GAA presidency for the Irish presidency.
The Armagh man has been touted as a possible successor to Michael D Higgins in Áras an Úachtaráin ahead of the presidential election later this year, but firmly ruled himself out of the running when speaking on RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland after yesterday morning’s Tailteann Cup quarter-final draw.
“I most certainly am not [running],” he said.
“I can confidently say that today [and] confirm it for you. I have another year of the GAA presidency to do and I would certainly not be in the mood to give that up to go for anything else.
"I have a lot of things to do in the GAA and a very short time to do it, so thank you very much for asking, but it’s a firm no from me.”
